An Amazon.com affiliate in China has been able to buy bitcoins from a bitcoin retailer in the country for around $1,000 USD.
The transaction took place last week, and the seller says the bitcoins are valued at $1.2 million USD.
The seller of the product, an affiliate of the China Bitcoin Trade Platform, did not reveal how much he made from the transaction.
The Bitcoin Trade Network, which is the main source of transactions for bitcoin, did confirm that the seller made a profit of around $100,000.
The bitcoin price has been in the $1k-$1.5k range recently, and it’s worth about $7,000 to $10,000 on the black market.
The affiliate bought the bitcoins from an Amazon.in affiliate in a market called Hong Kong, which was a popular destination for bitcoin sales in recent years.
The merchant said he bought the coins on August 1, but had no idea they were coming to his shop.
“I just bought a pair of socks,” he said.
The sale was one of a number of recent purchases of bitcoins by Amazon.
In the first three months of 2017, the company paid out $1 billion USD in bitcoin payments.
Last year, bitcoin was trading around $200 per coin, which means buying bitcoins from Amazon.co.uk has cost around $5,000 in transaction fees.
